In a major boost to Digital India’s linguistic inclusion mission, the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and deploy next-generation multilingual AI solutions across Indian Railways’ key public-facing platforms.
The MoU was signed in New Delhi by Amitabh Nag, CEO of BHASHINI, and G.V.L. Satya Kumar, Managing Director of CRIS. This strategic collaboration will integrate BHASHINI’s advanced language technology stack—including Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text-to-Text Translation, Text-to-Speech (TTS), and Optical Character Recognition (OCR)—into CRIS-managed systems such as the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and RailMadad.

This initiative will empower citizens to access critical railway services in 22 Indian languages, significantly enhancing inclusivity and user experience. Speaking at the MoU signing, Amitabh Nag emphasized that BHASHINI’s AI capabilities will eliminate language barriers for millions of railway passengers. G.V.L. Satya Kumar added that the partnership will bring AI-powered inclusivity to the forefront of railway services, improving transparency and efficiency.

The collaboration also includes co-development of multilingual chatbots and voice assistants, multilingual over-the-counter interfaces, and the integration of AI tools across websites, mobile apps, kiosks, and call centers. Real-time, speech-based interactions in Indian languages will be enabled through both cloud and on-premise deployments.

A series of joint technical workshops and pilot projects are set to roll out in the coming months, laying the groundwork for a linguistically inclusive digital future. This MoU stands as a key milestone in advancing Digital India’s vision and reinforces India’s leadership in language AI for public digital infrastructure.
