India’s Gross Expenditure on Research and Development (GERD) has more than doubled under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, rising from ₹60,196 crore in 2013-14 to ₹1,27,381 crore, said Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh at the DISHA event in New Delhi. He emphasised that homegrown innovations in AI, biotechnology, and quantum computing will shape India’s future economy.
Dr. Singh highlighted the DISHA Program, aimed at fostering a knowledge-driven economy by supporting faculty, researchers, and startups working on disruptive technologies. The initiative aligns with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) to promote cross-sectoral collaboration between science, humanities, and industry.
He also underscored India’s policy shift in space and nuclear sectors, allowing private sector participation to boost technological advancements and global competitiveness. AI-driven healthcare solutions are improving remote healthcare accessibility, while a hybrid AI-human model remains key to ensuring quality services.

As India moves towards 100 years of independence in 2047, young innovators will be pivotal in achieving global technological leadership.
