Shaktikanta Das

Former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das (Retd IAS: 1980: TN) has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister of India. His tenure will remain co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders. Shaktikanta will serve in this role alongside Dr. P.K. Mishra, who continues as Principal Secretary-1 to the PM.

Shaktikanta concluded his extended term as the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on December 10, 2024, handing over responsibilities to Sanjay Malhotra (IAS: 1990: RJ), the former Revenue Secretary, who now serves as the 26th RBI Governor. Before his RBI tenure, he held key positions in the Ministry of Finance, including as Finance Secretary Designate, where he played a crucial role in shaping India’s economic policies.

With his appointment, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) gains an experienced policymaker known for his expertise in monetary policy, fiscal strategy, and financial governance. His extensive experience in both banking regulation and economic administration is expected to strengthen the PMO’s decision-making framework.
