Rajasthan has emerged as a national leader in mineral block auctions for the year 2023-24, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, who also oversees the Mines Department. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the state’s mining sector, showcasing its efficiency, transparency, and commitment to sustainable resource management.

At the National Mining Ministers Conference held in Konark, Odisha, the state was honoured with the prestigious ‘Exemplary Performance in Mineral Block Auctions’ award. Union Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Mines Secretary V. Kantarao presented the award to Rajasthan’s Principal Secretary for Mines, Geology, and Petroleum, T. Ravikant.

Expressing his gratitude, Ravikant highlighted the strategic measures implemented under Chief Minister Sharma’s leadership. “Rajasthan has achieved historic milestones in the mineral sector, from policy reforms to exploration and mining operations,” he said. The Central Government lauded Rajasthan‘s achievements, recognising them as a benchmark for other states.

Rajasthan successfully auctioned 31 major mineral blocks in 2023-24, the highest in the country. This accomplishment, achieved within three months of the new government’s formation, reflects the state’s robust planning and commitment. Of these blocks, 22 were for limestone, 5 for base metals, and 4 for iron ore, encompassing 22 mining leases and 9 composite licenses.

Ravikant credited this success to the collective efforts of the Mines Department team, along with contributions from stakeholders and the people of Rajasthan. “This achievement is a result of teamwork and a shared vision to drive the state’s mining sector forward,” he added.

The state’s Director of Mines, Bhagwati Prasad Kalal, emphasised the strategic initiatives that propelled Rajasthan to national prominence. These include advanced mineral exploration, precise delineation of mining plots, seamless auctions on the Government of India’s e-portal, and rigorous actions against illegal mining activities. “Our strong focus on curbing illegal activities and implementing night patrols has ensured a disciplined mining ecosystem,” Kalal noted.
