Aadhaar Samvaad

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) hosted a stakeholders’ meet in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, bringing together nearly 500 industry representatives from BFSI, Fintech, and Telecom sectors. The event, titled Aadhaar Samvaad, aimed to enhance service delivery through the innovative use of Aadhaar.

The highlight of the event was Aadhaar’s Face Authentication transactions crossing the 100-crore mark since its launch in October 2021. This milestone was achieved in record time, with cumulative transactions doubling from 50 crore to 100 crore in just five months. The AI/ML-based solution, developed in-house by UIDAI, underscores India’s growing reliance on Aadhaar as the backbone of its digital identity ecosystem.

S Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), emphasised Aadhaar’s role as the foundational layer of India’s digital public infrastructure. He urged UIDAI to continue collaborating with stakeholders to empower citizens and enhance ease of living.

Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO, UIDAI, highlighted the transformative impact of Aadhaar in building trust in digital transactions, noting its alignment with India’s growth trajectory and aspirations. Neelkanth Mishra, Chairman of UIDAI, reinforced Aadhaar’s role in facilitating seamless service delivery for residents.

The day-long event included four focused panel discussions, addressing topics such as integrating Aadhaar face authentication for enhanced banking services, improving the user journey for NBFCs and Fintechs, and exploring safer digital futures. Insights from these discussions will inform future service enhancements.

The face authentication modality, already adopted by 92 entities across government and private sectors, enables users to verify their identity with a simple face scan. This contactless, secure technology is particularly beneficial for senior citizens and individuals facing challenges with fingerprint authentication due to manual labour or health issues.

Key Features of Aadhaar Face Authentication:

  • Works on Android and iOS platforms.
  • Resistant to video replay attacks and static photo authentication attempts.
  • Ensures convenience and security in diverse applications, including government benefits, telecom, and financial services.

This is the second Aadhaar Samvaad event, following the inaugural edition in Bengaluru in November 2024.
