Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a ‘Maharatna’ Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has entered a strategic partnership with IIT Roorkee through a ₹20.73 crore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aims to establish three cutting-edge Centres of Excellence (CoEs) at IIT Roorkee’s Institute Computer Centre, fostering innovation in technology and research.

The MoU was formalised in a ceremony attended by POWERGRID leadership, including R. K. Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director; Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Personnel); Naveen Srivastava, Director (Operations); Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, Director (Projects); and other senior officials. From IIT Roorkee, dignitaries included K. K. Pant, Director, and Sateesh Kumar Peddoju, Head of the Institute Computer Center, alongside senior faculty and officials from both organisations.

Arvind Kumar Rai, Senior General Manager (CSR), POWERGRID, and R. D. Garg, Dean of Resources and Alumni, IIT Roorkee, signed the MoU at POWERGRID’s Corporate Centre. The collaboration will enable the establishment of three state-of-the-art CoEs: a Command-and-Control Centre for campus ultra-high-speed (UHS) networks, an IoT Research and Application Centre, and a Lab for Cyber Security and Mobile Security Hackathons and awareness initiatives. These facilities aim to benefit nearly 11,000 on-campus students at IIT Roorkee and others, driving advancements in cutting-edge research and development.

IIT Roorkee, a prestigious institution founded in 1847, continues to lead in higher education and research across engineering, sciences, management, and social sciences.

This initiative underscores POWERGRID’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, aligning its efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Known for its robust operational achievements, POWERGRID operates 280 substations, over 1,78,975 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, and a transformation capacity of 5,45,961 MVA. Leveraging advanced technologies and digital solutions, the enterprise maintains a remarkable 99.80% transmission system availability.
