
In a major administrative reshuffle, K. Vijayanand, a 1992-batch IAS officer and Special Chief Secretary in the Energy Department, has been named the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. He will assume office on December 31, succeeding Neerabh Kumar Prasad, a 1987-batch IAS officer, who retires the same day upon reaching the age of superannuation.
Vijayanand expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu for entrusting him with the responsibility, while also acknowledging the support of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Minister Nara Lokesh, and outgoing Chief Secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad. He pledged to prioritise inclusive growth, focusing on backward regions and weaker sections of society.
With extensive expertise in the power sector, Vijayanand has been instrumental in shaping Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, propelling the state as a global clean energy hub. His leadership has overseen the execution of critical energy projects and the development of resilient infrastructure post-bifurcation.

Throughout his career, Vijayanand has held prominent roles such as Managing Director of APGENCO and APTRANSCO and Principal Secretary for IT & Electronics. His administrative journey began in 1993 as Assistant Collector of Adilabad, followed by key assignments including Sub Collector of Rampachodavaram, Project Director for Rural Development, and District Collector for Srikakulam and Nalgonda districts.

As Principal Secretary for IT & Electronics (2016–2019), Vijayanand spearheaded policies that attracted global tech giants like HCL and TCL, transforming cities like Vizag, Vijayawada, and Tirupati into thriving IT hubs. His promotion to Chief Secretary reflects his enduring contributions to the state’s governance and development.
