Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office in 2014, India has witnessed an era of transformative projects and initiatives aimed at reshaping the nation’s economic and social fabric. With programs like Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, and Swachh Bharat, a robust foundation has been established for the country’s ambitious vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. As these initiatives have evolved over the last decade, they have paved the way for the government’s new overarching goal: positioning India as the world’s third-largest economy and transforming the country into a developed, self-reliant nation (Vikshit Bharat) by 2047. This ambitious vision seeks to engage every citizen and encourage collective action.
The journey toward achieving this vision is already evident in various sectors. One of the most striking transformations has occurred in digital payments. At the outset, there were doubts about how India’s underprivileged communities and small farmers would adapt to digital transactions. Many critics questioned the feasibility of such a shift. However, with comprehensive policies, a strong digital infrastructure, and transparent governance, India has proven that significant change is indeed possible. The scale of daily transactions through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) today stands as a testament to this digital revolution. Initiatives like UPI and the JAM (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile) trinity have empowered millions across economic spectrums, showcasing the readiness of the Indian populace to embrace technological advancements.
Another area where this transformative drive is clearly visible is Uttar Pradesh. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state has implemented forward-thinking policies in the IT and electronics sectors. These include a host of subsidies, incentives, and waivers on electricity and stamp duties, which have positioned Uttar Pradesh as a preferred destination for business and innovation. The state now produces around 80 per cent of all mobile phones manufactured in India, hosting major mobile manufacturing facilities. In Greater Noida, work on Electronics Manufacturing Clusters is nearly 70 per cent complete, with another cluster in the pipeline. These clusters are expected to create more than 70,000 jobs, signifying the state’s substantial contribution to India’s economic and technological growth.
Furthermore, Uttar Pradesh is making strides in emerging fields like semiconductors and artificial intelligence, with numerous software parks spread across the state and plans to establish even more. The state currently boasts 12,000 startups, of which 5,000 are led by women. This focus on gender equality and entrepreneurship is helping to set benchmarks in the startup ecosystem, fostering innovation and redefining the industry landscape.
As the world shifts away from traditional measures of power, such as nuclear arsenals, to leadership in information technology and artificial intelligence, nations excelling in these areas will be the true global superpowers. India, with its evolving technological infrastructure, is well on its way to becoming one of these leading nations, propelling a digital revolution that is poised to change the global order.
Uttar Pradesh stands at the forefront of this transformation, championing a future defined by innovation and advanced technology. With thriving startups, rapidly developing software parks, and a focus on AI and semiconductor advancements, the state is laying the groundwork for a tech-driven future. Its commitment to gender equality and forward-looking policies are not only fostering economic growth but also ensuring that this progress is inclusive. In a nutshell, the state is making meaningful strides toward India’s overarching vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and a developed, self-reliant nation by 2047.
