A High-Level Committee led by the Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation has approved three major projects totaling Rs. 725.62 crore for the “Expansion and Modernization of Fire Services in the states” of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal. The funding breakdown includes Rs. 147.76 crore for Chhattisgarh, Rs. 201.10 crore for Odisha, and Rs. 376.76 crore for West Bengal. The committee includes members such as the Finance Minister, Agriculture Minister, and the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
This initiative is part of the efforts under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a disaster-resilient India. The MHA has launched several measures to ensure effective disaster management across the country, focusing on disaster risk reduction and minimizing loss of life and property.
The Central Government has committed Rs. 5000 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for modernizing state fire services. Previously, projects worth Rs. 2542.12 crore from 15 states have already received approval. Additionally, over Rs. 21,026 crore has been disbursed this year to various states, including Rs. 14,878.40 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Rs. 4,637.66 crore from the NDRF, Rs. 1,385.45 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF), and Rs. 124.93 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF).
