Amit Kumar

The Union Government has appointed Punjab cadre IAS officer, Amit Kumar, as the new Commissioner of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the Ministry of Home Affairs‘ proposal for Mr. Kumar’s appointment on inter-cadre deputation to the AGMUT cadre. He will serve a three-year term or until further orders.

Amit Kumar, a 2008-batch IAS officer, is currently Director, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab. His appointment fills the vacancy left after the previous Commissioner, IAS Anindita Mitra, concluded her term on August 22. During the interim, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh took on the additional role.
