Swachhata Abhiyan

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government will conduct a comprehensive statewide cleanliness campaign from September 17 to October 2, coinciding with the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Under the theme “Swabhaav Swachhata-Sanskar Swachhata” (Cleanliness as Nature, Cleanliness as Culture), the campaign aims to promote hygiene and environmental consciousness across urban areas.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the Urban Development Department to ensure the success of the campaign, which will feature a 155-hour non-stop cleaning drive in all urban bodies as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva Pakhwada.” The 15-day initiative will include theme-based Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities each day, with participation from ministers, public representatives, officials, volunteers, and educational institutions through “shramdaan” (voluntary labor).

Various programs aimed at engaging youth and raising awareness will be organized, such as long runs, marathons, cyclotrons, tree planting drives, and zero-waste events. Swachh Vatavaran Protsahan Samitis will lead public awareness initiatives at the ward level, while 5,000 Swachh Sarathi Clubs will take part in the campaign. Schools will work towards becoming plastic-free, and students will take cleanliness pledges as part of the drive.

As part of the “Sampoorna Swachhata Abhiyan,” large-scale cleanliness efforts will target public places, government offices, markets, educational institutions, zoos, Ganga towns and ghats, water bodies, tourist spots, and heritage sites.
