The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is setting new benchmarks in data dissemination through its Geoportal-Bhuvan, outstripping global tech giants like Google in terms of information detail. ISRO Chief S. Somanath recently announced that Bhuvan offers users data that is ten times more detailed than Google, with the addition of two new tools, Bhuvan-Panchayat and the National Database for Emergency Management (NDEM), significantly enhancing data access and utility.
Renowned for its extensive geospatial data offerings, Bhuvan provides detailed insights valuable across multiple sectors, supporting decision-making in agriculture, urban planning, and disaster management. The newly launched Bhuvan-Panchayat tool aims to empower local governance with enriched data sets and analytical tools.
“India’s Geoportal-Bhuvan delivers information that is ten times more comprehensive than what Google offers. We have introduced two critical tools, Bhuvan-Panchayat and NDEM, adding substantial new data sets,” Somanath stated.

The NDEM tool enhances ISRO’s disaster response capabilities, integrating vital data sets for risk assessment and mitigation during emergencies. These tools bridge information gaps, providing stakeholders with actionable insights from satellite imagery and other spatial data, thus strengthening India’s digital infrastructure.
