Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV), a central university of Indian Railways based in Vadodara, inked three significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Nokia, Plasser India, and Jacobs on Monday at Rail Bhawan. The agreements aim to enhance the university’s industry-academia partnerships.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the first Chancellor of GSV, expressed gratitude to the partnering companies for their collaboration, emphasizing the benefits for students. “I am glad that GSV is emerging as an institution at par with IITs in the country in such a short time. Today, three MoUs are being signed. It is an important milestone. Our approach is to focus on intense industry-academia partnerships. This will enable students to be job-ready by their final year at GSV,” Vaishnaw stated.
The first MoU, signed by GSV Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manoj Choudhary and Nokia’s President of Cloud and Network Services Raghav Sahgal, targets collaboration on 5G/6G communications research for air, land, and sea transportation.

Prof. Choudhary’s second MoU with Siegfried Fink, Managing Director of Plasser India, focuses on track technology collaboration, promoting industry experience and training, and exploring joint research opportunities in transport and rail sectors. This agreement also promises internships and placements for GSV students.

The third MoU, signed with Anil Relan, Vice President and Whole-time Director of Jacobs, aims to advance research, teaching, and training in transport, rail, and semiconductor sectors. This partnership will help establish centers of excellence in semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, and railways, including laboratory development.

Key attendees included Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Railway Board Chairman and CEO Jaya Varma Sinha, and other senior officials. Experts anticipate that these MoUs, coupled with the growth in transportation, logistics, and telecommunications, and the focus on semiconductor manufacturing, will generate significant employment opportunities.
GSV, known for its industry-driven and innovation-led approach, has established collaborations with global leaders such as AIRBUS, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Nippon Koei, Siemens DPIIT, Karmayogi Bharat, VLSI Society of India, and the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. It has also partnered with academic institutions like IIM Mumbai, BITS Pilani, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Jodhpur, NITTTR Bhopal, PGUPS Moscow, and the Indian Maritime University.
Established by an Act of Parliament in 2022, GSV aims to develop top-tier talent for the transportation and logistics sectors.
