Election Commission of India (ECI)


The Election Commission of India (ECI), which is now in administrative command after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, has issued directives for removing home secretaries in six states: Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Furthermore, the Director General of Police (DGP) in West Bengal has also been ordered to step down, with the WB government directed to assign the role to the next senior-most officer in the police headquarters.

Additionally, the Secretary of the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, holding charges in their respective Chief Minister’s Offices, have been relieved from their positions. The ECI has expanded its actions beyond state boundaries, opting to remove Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal alongside several additional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
