In a significant move, tech giant Google inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra on Thursday. The agreement aims to deploy artificial intelligence (AI)-led solutions across pivotal sectors within the state.
Under the collaboration, Google commits to harnessing its AI capabilities to revolutionize industries such as agriculture, healthcare, sustainability, education, and startups.
As part of the initiative, Google unveiled plans to establish a cutting-edge AI Centre of Excellence at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Nagpur.
Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said, “Maharashtra is committed to AI-driven development, and our partnership with Google marks a significant milestone in this journey.”
He added, “This collaboration will empower our citizens with critical future-ready skills, revolutionize essential sectors like healthcare and agriculture, and create a thriving environment for Maharashtra AI startups through the AI Center of Excellence at IIIT Nagpur.”

Google aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship by offering startups mentorship, networking opportunities, and demo days with industry leaders. Additionally, the company plans to train 500 government IT professionals in conversational AI skills through Google Cloud.
The collaboration extends into healthcare and agriculture. Google, along with its partners and the Maharashtra government, will deploy AI imaging models for health screenings and provide agricultural insights through its Agricultural Landscape Understanding (ALU) API.
