Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Tuesday that its construction arm has bagged a mega contract to establish an electrification system for the high-profile bullet train project in India. The mega order was awarded by an authorised Japanese agency overseeing the project.

In an official statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), L&T revealed, “The railways strategic business group of L&T Construction has secured a mega contract to construct 508 route km of high-speed electrification system works for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Project, popularly referred to as the bullet train project.”

Upon completion, this advanced electrification system is expected to facilitate trains to operate at speeds of up to 320 kilometers per hour, enhancing the efficiency and speed of transportation.

Financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project is being executed by an authorised Japanese agency on behalf of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. Despite not disclosing the specific financial details of the contract, L&T categorises the order as ‘mega,’ typically falling within the valuation range of Rs 10,000-15,000 crore.
