India is set to host a global summit starting Monday, centering its discussions on critical topics such as data protection, export controls, and the profound influence of technology on geopolitics. This three-day event, known as the Global Technology Summit (GTS), will also explore emerging technologies, digital public infrastructure, and overarching policy matters related to innovation and national security.

Announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday, the GTS will revolve around the theme of ‘Geopolitics of Technology.’ This summit stands as India’s flagship gathering on geo-technology and is jointly organised by the Policy Planning and Research Division of the MEA and Carnegie India.

The GTS is expected to bring together an assembly of approximately a hundred speakers and thousands of participants, encompassing policy makers, industry experts, academics, technocrats, and innovators from both India and around the world, as stated by the MEA in an official statement.

Notably, the summit will see the participation of ministers and senior government officials from various countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Lithuania, Brazil, and the European Union.

The MEA has outlined the summit’s key areas of focus, which include discussions on the far-reaching impact of technology on geopolitics, policy considerations surrounding new, critical, and emerging technologies, digital public infrastructure, export controls, data protection, and broader policy matters related to innovation and national security.

The inaugural session of the Global Technology Summit will commence with an address by India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar. This event promises to be a pivotal platform for in-depth discussions and collaborations among global leaders and experts on the critical intersection of technology and geopolitics.
