Anurag Jain appointed as Secretary of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways

The central government on Thursday transferred and posted a large number of secretaries as well as additional-secretary level IAS officers in a significant bureaucratic reorganisation.


On April 20, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued a directive in this regard. Two other officers received in-situ promotions, which was also accepted.

The new Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways will be Mr. Anurag Jain, an IAS officer from the 1989 batch of Madhya Pradesh cadre. He was serving as secretary in the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.

Mr. Jain will replace Ms. Alka Upadhyaya, a 1990 batch IAS of his cadre. She has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying.


Arun Sighal, an IAS of 987 batch from Uttar Pradesh cadre has been given the charge of Director General of the National Archives of India, which is under the Ministry of Culture. Prior to this, he held the position of Secretary in the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers’ Department of Fertilisers.

Rajesh Kumar Singh, an IAS officer of 1989 batch from the Kerala cadre has been named Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). He served as Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairy in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairy. He will take Mr. Jain’s place.
