Amitabh Kant

Amitabh Kant, the former CEO of NITI Aayog, is going to become the new Sherpa of G-20. He will replace Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal for this role, as India assumes the G-20 presidency in December 2022.

Kant, a retired IAS officer, will be Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s envoy and a key policy interlocutor at the forum. Prior to that, he was the Secretary of the Department of Industry Policy and Promotion (DIPP). He will be instrumental in setting the agenda for India’s presidency.

As India takes the G-20 presidency from Indonesia later this year, Kant’s appointment as Sherpa would prove beneficial given his impeccable records in administration and leadership.
