As the days pass, we are witnessing stronger penetration of technology in not only the lives of citizens but also in the government, public and private sectors. The Digital India Mission launched by the Prime Ministers has transformed the way governments work. With initiatives like digitising government services & schemes, application of various certificates and documents, online grievance redressal and more, the growth in e-governance in the country has benefitted the citizens highly.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can enhance the transformation of work culture by serving a variety of ends. These include better delivery of government services to citizens, improved government interactions with business and industry, citizen empowerment through access to information & participation for decision-making and more efficient governance management. E-Governance fundamentally strives to bring about a change in mindset and work culture to integrate governance processes and functions to serve the citizens better.

However, it is to be noted that though the technology-led processes have made the lives of citizens convenient, it has also made the government-citizen ecosystem vulnerable to cyber attacks and breaches. As the traffic on government websites and portals is increasing, so is the number of cyberattacks across the country. Therefore, cybersecurity concerns have become imperative, especially when we are looking ahead to a more technology-driven future. E-Governance projects must have a security layer by design to ensure that the government and the citizen data is secured.
