Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution inked an MoU with CSC e-Governance Services India Limited to increase the business opportunities and income of Fair Price Shops (FPSs). Under this, CSC services will also be delivered by FPS dealers interested in doing so.

Jyotsna Gupta, Deputy Secretary, Public Distribution and Sarthik Sachdeva, vice president, CSC signed the MoU in the presence of Sudhanshu Pandey, Secretary, Department of Food & Public Distribution and Dinesh Kumar Tyagi, Managing Director, CSC.

In order to enable FPSs to extend CSC services as well, CSC has been advised to identify feasible activities like Utility Bill payments, PAN applications, Passport Applications, Election Commission Services, etc. to facilitate the consumer and open doors to additional income to the FPSs.

CSC will associate with state governments for signing pacts for providing interested FPS dealers access to Digital Seva Portal (DSP) to deliver CSC services at their stores. CSC will undertake sharing of technical know-how and capacity building of FPSs.

Considering the potential in this collaboration, all the state governments have been advised to look at possibilities of increasing income and business opportunities of FPSs by nodding to the delivery of CSC services through the FPSs.

Also, to improve ease and convenience for consumers, ration card services provided by States/UTs such as applying for new cards, updating existing ration cards, Aadhaar seeding requests, status check of ration availability and grievance registration may be explored by the states through CSCs as an additional option. This is at the discretion of the State Government who will ensure due diligence regarding data safety, adherence to statutory provision and other relevant guidelines
