Alapan Bandyopadhyay becomes Chief Advisor to CM, HK Dwivedi becomes Chief Secretary, West Bengal

Hari Krishna Dwivedi, Alapan Bandyopadhyay

Amid the ongoing rift between the Centre and the Government of West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assigned Alapan Bandyopadhyay (IAS 1987-Batch) the charge of Chief Advisor to the CM.

Bandyopadhyay retired from his post of Chief Secretary of West Bengal on Monday, May 31 as the Centre denied him an extension of three months as requested by the State government. Refusing to let go of the IAS officer, the CM appointed him as the Chief Advisor to her. CM Banerjee’s move was supported by the arguments expressing appreciation for Bandyopadhyay’s work to fight COVID-19 and his efforts in relief work for the aftermath of Cyclone Yaas.

Meanwhile, Hari Krishna Dwivedi (IAS 1988-Batch) was issued an appointment order from the Centre to take over the post of Chief Secretary of West Bengal. Dwivedi was posted as secretary, Home Department, West Bengal, prior to the Centre’s order on May 31. B P Gopalika (IAS 1989-Batch) has been posted as the new Secretary, Home Department, West Bengal.
