A day after Girish Chandra Murmu resigned from his position of Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir, he was appointed as the next Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on August 6.
Murmu, a senior IAS officer of the Gujarat cadre had taken the charge of L-G, J&K on October 25, 2019. However, the reasons cited for his resignation was his remarks regarding elections and restoration of the 4G network in J&K which contradicted with the Centre’s position.
Rajiv Mehrishi, the CAG prior to Murmu’s appointment completes his term on Friday, August 7.
