
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is preparing to rejuvenate as many as 39 lakes under 13 packages by removing water hyacinth. The project cost is estimated to be over Rs 30 crore.
The standing committee of the GHMC gave a nod for the lake rejuvenation project that is to be carried in a phased manner. Moreover, the GHMC has rolled out an action plan for its restoration and maintenance for the coming three years.

According to officials from GHMC, nine packages of the 13 have gained approval from the committee and four packages have been approved by DS Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC. According to the contract, the agency will be responsible for cleaning and transportation work for three years. The agency will remove the water hyacinth from the lakes. The water has to be transported to the Jawahar Nagar waste treatment plant.
