Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh, on May 8, has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release a relief package worth Rs 30,000 crore to aid the state amidst the economic crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the CM urged the PM to release Rs 10,000 crore immediately to battle the viral pandemic.

Looking at the status if Chhattisgarh amidst the COVID outbreak, the number of COVID positive cases in the state is relatively low. Considering the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 60 cases found as of yet and 38 have been cured and discharged from the hospitals. Moreover, there are no deaths reported in the state as of yet.

In a press briefing, on May 7, Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, MoHFW said that the country must learn to live with the virus. “We will have to learn to live with the virus, for which it is important to make critical behavioural changes and incorporate all the preventive guidelines that the health ministry has been issuing on following hand hygiene, cough etiquette and social distancing measures, as part of our daily routine. It is an everyday battle for us to keep the infection at bay,” the Joint Secretary said.
