K Shanmugam takes charge as Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary

Tamil Nadu government has appointed K Shanmugam as Chief Secretary of the state. He took charge on Monday by taking over Girija Vaidyanathan.

Prior to being appointed as the Chief Secretary, the 1985-Batch officer was the Additional Chief Secretary, Finance department.

The 1985-Batch officer was the officiating Chief Secretary in December 2017 in place of Vaidyanathan owing to her indisposition.

Hailing from Salem district, Tamil Nadu, Shanmugam held various posts like Director of the Rural Development (DRD), Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) and Food Secretary of the state among others.

He has also served as Sub-Collector of Cheranmahadevi of Tirunelveli district and Collector of Sivaganga and Pudukottai districts during the early phase of his career.

Shanmugam is an alumnus of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore from where he has pursued post-graduate degree in Agricultural Economics.
