The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) has joined hands with Australia’s University of Technology Sydney to collaborate on research in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As per the cooperation agreement, ISI and the Faculty of Engineering and IT of University of Technology Sydney will establish a new joint research cluster to focus on research in AI, character and video recognition, document analysis and biometrics.
“With ISI being one of India’s key academic institutions, this joint cluster will create further linkages between our academics and offer an exceptional opportunity for UTS staff and students working with ISI experts,” said Prof. Michael Blumenstein from the UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT.
The initiative would also create partnership opportunities with industry and attract international funding, said ISI Deputy Director Dipti Prasad Mukherjee. It will also enable PhD students from India and Australia to work together closely and help create jointly supervised PhD students.
ISI has agreed to open its lab in Kolkata for research work, which includes solutions for healthcare, document analysis and drone-based technologies, besides other applications of AI and machine learning.
