IASThe Government scheme of offering lateral entry to IAS cadre has received meek response.

Only 6,000 applications have been received till the ending of the deadline as against the expectation of one lakh.

The Centre had invited applications for 10 Joint Secretary level posts from private sector professionals who will be inducted into the services without them having to go through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations.

The motive was to induct private talent into the Government services.

The government has given examples of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and ex-deputy chairman of the then Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, as those who joined the government through the “lateral entry” process at various ranks.
