The Income Tax Department has extended the date of filing of income tax returns (ITRs) by August 5. July 31st was the last day for filing the returns but due to large number of applications, the Department has extended the deadline.

More than two crore returns have been filed electronically for the financial year 2016-17.

Earlier there were reports that the department’s e-filing website – incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in – is not functioning properly due to heavy load.

The Department  has also tweeted that Aadhaar-PAN card linking can be done till August 31st  and the return will be processed after the linking.

Taxpayers have also been asked to give information about the cash deposited aggregating to Rs. 2 lakh or more post-demonetisation, between November 9 and December 30 last year.
