indexChandigarh Oct 20: The exports concerning Information Technology (IT) from Haryana have touched the mark of Rs 42,160 crore during the year 2015-16 and Gurugram is a major contributor. Despite economic slowdown in the world, these exports reflect an increase of 6 to 6.5 per cent as compared to that of the previous year.

This assessment was made on the basis of data collected by National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and Export Promotion Council. At present, more than 500 IT and Information Technology enabled Services (ITeS) are functional in Gurgaon. During the two year tenure of the present Government, about 50 new small and big IT Companies have come up in the State. Apart from this, the already established IT and ITeS Companies have expanded their base. In the area of e-Commerce, Snapdeal has opened its office in Gurgaon which has provided direct employment to more than 6000 persons and indirectly benefited thousand others.

As a result of the policies of the State Government, Gurgaon has become a favourite destination among the entrepreneurs for investment in the field of IT. About all big IT companies of the world have opened their offices in Gurugram. The Copal Research Institute, which has opened its office in Gurugram not only provided direct employment opportunities to about 1250 persons but also indirectly benefited thousands others. Graphics and Animation Company ‘Thomson’ including TCS and Genpact have expanded their units by opening offices at several places in Gurugram, which has not only become a hub of IT and ITeS in the country but has also made its mark abroad. As a result of the liberal Enterprises Promotion Policy of the State Government, a considerable increase has been registered in the growth rate of IT industries in Gurugram.


In this modern era, IT sector is developing at a rapid pace. As a result of the close proximity of Gurugram to Delhi, availability of educated youth, liberal Enterprises Promotion Policy and better communication network, the IT Companies are expanding their business in Gurugram.

The Government is laying special emphasis on ease of doing business in the State. Facility of e-biz portal has been started for the entrepreneurs where they could apply online for business clearances. Apart from this, they could also upload their grievances on the same portal and get the clearance in a time bound manner. District Level Clearance Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner to provide clearances for projects with investment of upto Rs 10 crore or involving Change of Land Use (CLU) requirement up to one acre. Apart from this, connectivity of Gurugram to Delhi through Metro has also given a major fillip to the setting up of IT Companies in Gurgaon.


Among the well known IT Companies which are operational in Gurugram included Hughes Software , Tata Consultancy Services, HCL, G-Capital, Silicon Graphics, Alcatel, American Express, Convergys, Motorola, Ericsson, Polaris, Dell, Samsung, Aricent, Microsoft, IBM, Siemens, Fidelity, Genpact, Oracle, WNS, Google, Asencher and Wipro.
