Cisco Systems Inc. has partnered with Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) to develop digital solutions for India’s infrastructure and smart cities, using the Internet of Everything (IoE), a concept related to the connection of all devices, people and data to the Internet.
The Digital India vision of the government will get a boost from this collaboration. Bringing together Cisco’s Internet of Everything (IoE) solutions and ITL’s understandings in infrastructure development in India, the collaboration will enable the delivery of cost-effective and efficient citizen services to urban and rural communities. “With this partnership, we aim to develop India-centric technologies to digitise the country. We will focus on delivering core infrastructure, creating a smart ecosystem and service delivery,” said Dinesh Malkani, President, sales, Cisco India and SAARC.
Some of the solutions that will be jointly developed include services such as guided parking where citizens can access real time information on available parking, traffic management systems that do not need human intervention, and a smart grid to track water and electricity consumption to minimise wastage. Cisco and ITL will also develop solutions to help improve city infrastructure operations through sharing information in real time across agencies and systems.
Prem Saigal, Chairman of ITL and Dinesh Malkani, President of Cisco India and SAARC, made the partnership announcement at the Cisco India Summit held in Bangalore India on 8 December. Cisco also showcased three products conceptualised and designed to make the vision of Digital India a reality.
