Shankar Agarwal joins Ministry of Women and Child Development as the Secretary

Shankar Agarwal has been appointed as the Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.  He will replace Arun Kumar Jain, 1977 batch Nagaland cadre IAS who has retired.

Prior to this he has worked as the Special Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India.  Mr. Aggarwal has also served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Information Technology and was Head of NeGP (National e-Governance Plan). He was tasked to carry the nation to the next level by evangelizing the use of ICT in making government services accessible to the common man in his locality, through common service delivery outlets and ensure efficiency, transparency & reliability of such services at affordable costs to realize the basic needs of the common man.

Agarwal has also held key leadership positions both at State and Central Government level in his earlier stints. He has held the position of Principal Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Planning, Department of Technical Education in the Uttar Pradesh government apart from working as the then Managing Director in  the State Transport Corporation. Not only these, Agarwal has also served Bundelkhand University in the capacity of Vice Chancellor. On the other hand this 1980 batch IAS officer also worked as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) in the Indian Oil Corporation and held positions of Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Small Scale Industries and Director, Department of Personnel & Training in the Central Government.
