Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi has been appointed as the  14th Attorney-General of India to succeed Gulam Vahanvati, who himself  resigned after the new dispensation took charge in the South Block. Mr. Rohatgi is one of the highest paid and sought after lawyer in the country.

After taking his office, Mr. Rohatgi,  said his top priority as the AG would be to “streamline litigation in the Supreme Court. I will see that the superior courts are not flooded with frivolous and petty litigation.”

He said he would make all efforts to check that the Government did not involve itself in inter-ministerial litigation.
