I&B Ministry to Monitor 800 TV Channels

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) plans to expand the range of Electronic Media Monitoring Committee (EMMC) from 300 to 800 TV channels.


EMMC currently monitors 191 channels on 24×7 basis at present. It is supposed to monitor the content of all TV channels to check the violation of program and advertisement conduct according to the Cable TV Network Regulation Act.

Finance Ministry has already cleared a budget of Rs 90 crore for this project. EMMC wants to expand its network by monitoring regional TV channels also. It also aims to check the violations in private FM radio channels that are operating in cities.
