All villages of Kerala are expected to have broadband connectivity by March next year. This is a record policy initiative aimed towards ensuring last mile connectivity for rural areas.

Presently, Kerala with a subscriber base of over 88 lakh, and has been a major market for growing mobile and broadband services. A master plan has been prepared to raise around 600 additional towers in rural areas.

BSNL expects to complete its expansion in the state by bringing all the villages expect a few under its network. BSNL (Ernakulam) principal general manager M Haridasan, said that the plan is to roll out broadband connections in around 1,300 villages. The BSNL is also banking on the 3G (third generation) spectrum for rolling out more value-added services (VAS) in the state.
