225 Common Services Centres would be set up in the North-Eastern state of Meghalaya in a move for better e-Governance in the rural areas.

The letter of intent for the initiative has been issued by the state government.

“The CSEs are part of the two pronged strategy to develop the state's IT sector. The centres will provide government-to-citizen and business-to-citizen services like issuing certificates and licenses etc,” an official said.

These Centres will be operated by the local entrepreneurs and the infrastructure will be set up by the government.

These centres will provide services at the doorsteps of the citizens and also serve as learning centres, he said, adding that very nominal rates will be charged from the citizens.
