Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) is planning to launch e-ticketing for the passengers travelling in buses in the Northern Indian state of Punjab.

The tickets will be electronically generated through Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) in a phased manner. PRTC has taken lessons from the successful implementation of e-ticketing in State Transport Corporation of Karnataka and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation.

PRTC has started the project with a pilot project by introducing approximately 50 ETMs in its KM scheme bus depot of Patiala. The pilot project was successful, therefore the Corporation planed to expand it to the other areas of the state. In the first phase, the corporation plans to introduce electronic tickets in Patiala, Chandigarh and Bathinda since all these depots were already computerised.

These electronic tickets will include detailed information like the boarding and destination stations and the date and time of travel sources from PRTC said.

Speaking on the initiative PRTC Managing Director Manvesh Singh Sidhu, stated that “the ETMs would help check revenue losses because of people travelling without tickets”.
