Webcasts of Open Meetings in New York State

Open public meetings in New York State in the United States of America (USA), have become a lot more open and a lot more accessible than they were. Eliot Spitzer, Governor of the State of New York issued an executive order requiring state agencies and public authorities to webcast meetings subject to the Open Meetings Law on the internet.

The executive order issued by the Governor says that, “it is essential to the maintenance of a democratic society that the public business be performed in an open and public manner; the citizens of this State be fully aware of and be able to observe the performances of public officials and attend and listen to the deliberations and decisions that go into the making of public policy, the people must be able to remain informed if they are to retain control over those who are their public servants and the Open Meetings Law requires every meeting of a public body shall be open to the general public.”
