Bahrain first to e-track visitors

Bahrain has become the first nation in the Middle East to introduce electronic cards for every tourist. Under the e-Borders project, more than 80 percent air traffic of the country will be included in the first quarter of 2007.

E-Border initiative will provide better protection against illegal immigration, terrorism and organised crime. The e-Project is developed in o-ordination with Geneva-based air transport communications company SITA and the Central Informatics Organisation in Bahrain. E-Border project is based on a similar system operated in Australia.
