Wajahat Habibullah, Chief Information Commissioner of Chennai (India) urged all state governments to implement e-Governance initiatives to reap the benefits of the Right to Information Act.
He stated, though the Act is mandated for every public authority to ensure that all records are computerised and made available online but still most states have not fully computerised their records. The Central Government has sanctioned INR 23,000 crore for implementation of e-governance projects. If the RTI Act is properly implemented, then it would be powerful weapon to create transparency between government and public.
