The Communication Minister, A Raja has said that the Government of India will issue a new set of guidelines for telecoms licenses and allocation of spectrum in the next 10 days.

A Raja stated that a committee has been formed to scrutinise details of new applications and spectrum related issues. Currently, the Department of Telecom (DoT) is looking into the guidelines for spectrum allocation and other financial criteria like net worth of the applicant for the purpose of awarding new licences. So far, the government has received about 300 applications from nearly 30 companies to enter into the fast growing telecom sector. Various corporate houses and multinational companies including AT&T, Russian firm Sistema, Sterlite, Hindujas, DLF, Parsvnath, Videocon and others have entered the fray to get telecom licences.
