The Central government in India is tying up with states to provide food coupons to ration-card holders, which is in line with what was done by Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva. 

The coupons can be redeemed at neighborhood ‘kirana’ stores, thus saving the beneficiaries of the public distribution system the hassle of visiting a ration shop, which leads to wastage of time and energy. According to the plan drawn up by the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, every ration-card holder will be issued coupons
