The Romanian government has opened the first rural telecentre, which would be equipped with WiMAX technology.

The project will offer wireless Internet access to school students in the village of Horia in Ialomita county. Intel will provide the wireless Internet access to the telecentre. Orange Romania has established the telecentre as a part of the government’s push to bring telephony and internet services to 600 isolated communities. The government has already opened 168 rural telecentres and is planning to install 163 more telecentres in rural areas.
