The Government of India (GoI) is seeking a World Bank loan to implement an e-Governance project for electronically processing all the government purchases.

The e-Government Procurement (e-GP) project is being coordinated by National Institute of Smart Government (NISG) on behalf of the Department of Commerce. e-GP project, which is part of the National e-Governance Plan Support Project (e-Bharat) has already started in the Hyderabad-based NISG. As a pilot project work will initially be started in a few states. The DPR will identify issues related to policies, technology solutions and platforms besides undertaking data security and services. Government wants to enhance performance of its system for procurement of goods, works and services. Since the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will grant the loan, so the project would be implemented strictly as per the World Bank guidelines.
