The Bahrain Government has launched new web portal, www.e.gov.bh, which will allow citizens to pay their electricity and water bills through debit card.

The Finance Ministry has signed an agreement with the Ahli United Bank, which will use the Benefit system offering an electronic network for financial transaction. While speaking at the press conference at Bahrain, country's e-Government representative Mohammed Al Qaed, said, previously credit-card holders could make online payments for services like traffic lines, electricity and water bills, but now debit card holders would be able to pay for services through portal. The government has launched several e-Governance programmes like the Government Data Network, Smartcard and the e-Government portal to drive Bahrain to a leadership position in the field.
