The Union Government has approved the proposal for setting up of 'Export Promotion Forum' under the aegis of Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India to promote export of telecom equipment and services. The Ministry of State for Communications & Information Technology has set a target to provide 500 million phone connections by 2010. Government is planning to provide USO support for provision of mobile services and broadband connectivity in rural areas. USO subsidy support scheme will be utilised for shared wireless infrastructure in rural areas with about 8000 towers by 2007.
