Kochi, India goes for Smart City project

The Sate Government of Kerala, India has signed the final agreement with Tecom Investments, promoters of the Dubai Internet City, to set up the Smart City in Kochi.

Kochi will join Malta as the first two members of a global network to develop Smart City. The $350-million project in Kochi will cover one million sq m of land, creating an infrastructure and environment for the knowledge-based industry to grow and flourish along the lines of the successful models of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City. It will have a built-up space of 8.8 m sq ft. the Smart City project will also provide employment opportunities in the areas of administration, hospitality, consultancy, construction, tourism, retail and logistics. According to Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, Smart City will play a key role in tapping the State’s enormous potential for development of key industries such as the ICT and media.
