Hindrances to e-Voting

The controversy on e-Voting is still going on in the House of Representatives on the suitability or otherwise of the use of e-Voting in the 2007 general elections of Nigeria.

Most federal lawmakers from the north are opposed to e-Voting while their counterparts from the south appear more comfortable with the device. They are opposing the use of electronic voting system (EVS) essentially because of the high illiteracy level in the northern part of the country, which they argued would lead to disenfranchisement of their people. Other hindrances to successful use of the e-Voting mechanism, according to the critics include erratic public power supply among other encumbrances.
