Bihar – the land of Buddha and Mahavira – saw development coming in a little late, compared to some better-off states in the country, for various historical and political reasons. But despite starting off late, it has managed to catch up with most other states in a number of areas, technology adoption being one of them. Bihar is on the cusp of an IT revolution today.

The Information Technology wave sweeping the country has had its impact on Bihar as well, and this ‘ancient seat of power’ also started toying with IT tools to ensure an accountable and responsible government through e-Governance, and efficient delivery of information and services to the citizens of the State.

Ever since coming into being in 2007, the Department of Information Technology, Bihar, has been making systematic efforts to promote the use of IT in various government departments. Besides, it has also been consistent in its endeavour to implement programmes under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), such as State Wide Area Network (SWAN), Common Service Centres (CSC), better known as ‘Vasudha Kendras’, ‘Jankari’ call centres and State Data Centre (SDC).

The State, often previously dismissed as an underdeveloped one, is today busy creating a world-class IT infrastructure and connectivity for e-Governance by linking its offices from the State headquarters down to districts, blocks and Panchayati Raj institutions through optical fibre lines to facilitate high-speed broadband digital networks. Similarly, execution of the world’s longest free public wi-fi project in Patna reaffirms the State’s commitment to bring various services to people at minimal cost to bridge the digital divide between the government and citizens. In short, Bihar is well on its way to transformation through an Information Technology revolution.

With a view to highlighting the opportunities and challenges of the e-revolution taking place in Bihar, Elets Techomedia is going to organise ‘2nd e-Bihar 2015 Conference & Awards’ on 19th-20th February at Patna. The two-day event will present the experts and stakeholders with an opportunity to share their views and exchange ideas on taking forward the IT-driven development of the State. The occasion will be graced by top law-makers of Bihar, and senior officials from within and outside the State, apart from the big names of the corporate world.

Towards the end of the event, Elets will also recognise and honour contributions of those, who made IT happen in the government ecosystem of the State.

So, be there to be a witness to it all!
