India supports WiMax technology on 3G networks, an emerging wireless telecoms technology that promise city wide coverage with few transmitters, high data output and enough wireless capacity to support Internet telephony.

India recommendations was made last week in Seoul at a working party meeting of International Telecommunication Union (ITU). If the proposal is accepted, Wimax will become the first fully IP (Internet protocol)-based wireless technology to be accepted by the body on a radio-based network.

R.N Aggrawal, former wireless advisor to Government of India, states that the introduction of Wimax will have far reaching commercial ramifications, it will provide greater choice to the operators.
